The Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning is looking for a post doctoral researcher in computational design and digital fabrication. You will work on robotic 3D printing processes such as concrete and clay printing while collaborating with other faculty members. Additionally, you should have experience conducting research and will help with the development of a university-wide multidisciplinary low carbon research initiative. You will work in the digital fabrication lab (FabLab) for full-scale construction projects and conduct several types of testing for performance data collection. We are looking for an organized individual, comfortable working collaboratively with other disciplines and large teams (i.e. engineering, design, bioengineering, environmental science, landscape architecture).

    Responsibilities

    • Conduct experimental research on 3D printing in both concrete and clay.
    • Conduct experiments for performance data capture, analyze data, and publish findings.
    • Help coordinate the development of low carbon building initiatives.
    • Prepare presentations, graphics, reports, and manage external (industry) relations.
    • Apply research skills for literature review, writing, and publication.
    • Evaluate and assess Life Cycle Analysis and Techno-Economic Analysis (LCA/TEA).

    Required Qualifications

    • Ph.D. or equivalent experience in one of the following: concrete and clay 3D printing research, robotic programming, architectural design, engineering, or construction
    • Experience in performance testing and data capture (bench scale and/or assembly level)
    • 1+ years of experience with design integration and performance-based computational analysis
    • Proficient in project coordination (logistics, deadlines, etc.)
