D_603 Future Housing: Architecture as Advertisement:Times Square Prototype House

This fourth year level design studio project was conceived as an attempt to formulate new models of home and community that respond to an increasingly digital culture. As emerging technologies and connective systems begin to redefine traditional notions of place, space and time, how might the house itself transform? How might existing consumer models influence home design, from pre-manufactured housing to consumer appliances, brand identity to television advertising? "Future housing" became a means to respond to new patterns and trends transforming the cultural landscape. Students were asked to formulate housing models to respond to technological, cultural and consumer-based issues through the creation of a prototypical house product, a 'future house' store, and an advertising campaign for the house.
