D_116 Hybrid Modeling: An Architecture for a Computer Numerically Controlled Manufacturing Facility

Chris Sharples . Solid presentation. It seems like a good environment to work in. Some diagrams and views of the shop floor would be appropriate to help in understanding the program and how certain design decisions were arrived at. A multiple sectioning drawing would also be good in showing the modulation of daylight through the space. An animation describing the daylight effects in the space would be worth while. There was a good mix of media both drawing and models to help explain the design process.

Carmina Sanchez . "Inhabited images" do not convey the sense this is the factory proposed (a few chairs, people looking at files). The 2D graphic composition for the presentation is good, elegant. Altough, as a web site, it lacks punch.

Hani Rashid . A building design with a digital program and highly analog outcome. The analysis is thorough and one wonders why the building ends up so banal and in effect conventional (save the roof).

Brian Johnson . Interesting "real" project. Clearly introduced. Hybrid qualities largely unexplained.

Mahesh Senagala . Quite a touching and well crafted project. Integrates the theme, program and tectonics well. I really enjoyed the range of media used in the process and the clarity with which the spaces were presented. I do not think, however, that this qualifies to be called "hybrid". I think multi(ple)media is more appropriate. There is no cross breeding or cross pollination of media informing each other.
