The
boundaries between the functions, activities, events supported by the physical
library and those supported by cyberspace are constantly shifting, defining
an indeterminate region, transforming by the same movement the identity and
contours of the activities / events involved.
Such distinctions lead to the construction of the dipolon: the worm
and the cell.
The dipolon functions in virtual space and it can also be implied in actual.
Each cell (each library) can be interpreted as a node of the one electronic
worldwide library, unified by the web (the worm),
Or, in the case of each one of those nodes, a cell (a studio, classroom, or
reading area) can be seen as a place for study, joined to other cells by the
constantly evolving information flow (the worm).
Although
recently inaugurated, the library is already inadequate:

The
need for expanding the existing library of the Architecture School of Athens
is used as an example in order to better understand the potential of the "Dipolon"
concept. One can follow the transformation of space, also taking into account
The
architecture school, once located at the central building of the historic university
campus, is gradually expanding, to include unoccupied areas in the remaining
campus buildings.

More space is needed to store the newly acquired and endowed collections.

Dispersion of the library activities throughout the campus
