The
library of the NTUA, School of Architecture
It
can be perceived as a total entity, both cyber and physical in nature: either
a node in a global cyber net, or a meeting-point inside the urban tissue.
The
Program: The
Worm
informs
about the function of the library, as well as the lectures, shows, exhibitions,
etc.
In the information age there is no need for a book circulation
area, since all books and information are available in electronic form and can
be retrieved from the home, classroom or office. Therefore actual books can
not be borrowed. They are always available for the user who needs to access
a book in its actual form. Tracing their position within the building is the
only service required.
Reference
and information area:
an important component of a university library. Here,
librarians assist users with the search engines and the available media.
In
the case of a university library it consists of course notes, projects, research
papers, and institutional editions. It is the only collection located in the
worm, because it is constantly evolving, and represents the research produced
in the school of architecture.
They deal with the edge of information and are to be found
only in electronic form, since they are ephemeral in nature (when they go stale,
they are rarely used).
It is a vital space for the gathering and encourages the
social life inside the library.
