LONDON, ENGLAND, January 8, 1998 New Transducers Ltd. (NXT), a wholly owned subsidiary of Verity Group Plc, recently demonstrated its award-winning flat-panel loudspeaker technology at WCES 98. Recognized as one of the best new technologies of 1997 by Popular Science magazine, NXT was developed as a key enabling technology for the next generation of multimedia, home theater, automotive and public address loudspeakers. NXT technology makes it possible for high-fidelity loudspeakers to be fabricated in virtually any size and shape, with a minimum thickness of just 1/64" (0.3mm).
The Popular Science award is just one of the many honors earned by NXT for its revolutionary technology in 1997. Others include: the Audio Video Internationals Grand Prix Award for technology, the UKs Manufacturing Industry Achievement Award for Innovation and UKs Business Weekly magazines Innovations Award.
NXT technology was invented in Veritys research and development facility, based on a patented theory by the British Ministry of Defence and exclusively licensed to NXT. It marks a radical theory from all previous and current flat-panel loudspeaker designs. Central to NXT technology is the use of a thin, light, rigid panel driven by a tiny exciter element (transducer). Unlike all conventional speaker designs (whose goal is to create accurate single-point pistonic motion), NXT technology yields complex vibration modes over the entire panel surface, uniformly distributed over the desired frequency range and producing a diffused sound field which interacts with the acoustic environment in a sympathetic manner. Since NXT does not approximate a point source it does not follow the inverse square law resulting in the sound level being much more even throughout the listening area.
At the recent WCES, NXT demonstrated a complete range of products incorporating flat-panel speaker technology. Included is the worlds first multimedia computer with NXT technology an NEC laptop, a home theater set-up with the projection screen doubling as the center channel speaker and new postcard-sized satellite speakers.
NXT is offering the benefits of its revolutionary flat-panel speaker technology to companies around the world, and several key licensing agreements have been signed over the last few months.
