Muncie's Cybermobile

Since this concept was created, our design team learned from a National Public Radio feature, streaming audio story available from 17 February 1999, about pioneer work in mobile technology access for libraries. In the Fall of 1998 The Muncie Indiana Public Library unveiled the Cybermobile, a bus converted to carry 6 computer workstations that serve primarily as Internet access and technology education for their entire library system.

Queensland Mobile Technology In addition, we discovered the recent Library Conference for the State Library of Queensland Australia that was titled "Bookmobiles to Cybermobiles". It focused on how their bookmobile infrastructure can adapt to the growing technology opportunities.

While these applications do not approach the technological integration proposed by the Book and Technology Mobile, they are important steps forward. Given the growing need to provide our libraries with a means to access to the Internet and its resources, we must think of creative solutions. In light of all that is available, we are more convinced than ever that sharing these expensive tools across the library district provides an exciting, financially viable solution.
